Join us for a four hour progressive workshop focusing on solo movement from both blues and jazz traditions. Expand your dance vocabulary, gain confidence in solo dance, and learn exactly what sets these two traditions apart as well as what they hold in common. Then, join us for Sugar House’s regular Swing Night, as well as a fantastic outdoor Late Night under the stars!
This workshop is designed to be progressive, so instead of individual one hour classes meant to stand alone each class period will build upon techniques discussed in earlier classes. Missing class time may result in your inability to keep up with the class during later class sessions. With this in mind, please be on time. Sugar House is allowing our instructor to not allow late participants to continue in the workshop should they not demonstrate a degree of proficiency in essential material they missed. In addition to structured class time will be a series of breaks for question and answer time with the instructor, practice time, or just time to get a drink.
This workshop is all levels, and is designed for dancers with a lindy hop and/or blues dance background.
Other events this weekend include Sugar House Blues on Friday May 19 (Drop-in lesson at 8 pm, open dance 9 pm – Midnight), Sugar House Swing on Saturday May 20 (Drop-in lesson at 8 pm, open dance 9 pm – 11:30 pm), and a special outdoor Blues Late Night on Saturday night (11:30 pm – ???). Both open dances are $5, and can be purchased in advance with the workshop or at the door.
