Swing Dance is a category of American Jazz Vernacular Dance that started in Harlem, New York in the 1920s. The Lindy Hop is the original swing dance, and it grew out of other popular dances of the time including blues and the Charleston. It was the dance craze of the 1940s, appearing in movies and ballrooms all over the world.
Swing dances happen on the Saturdays following the first and third Fridays of the month and feature an 8 pm drop-in beginner lesson followed by an open dance from 9 pm to midnight. The lesson is free, and the open dance is $5 (cash and credit accepted).
Dances are held at the AA Creative Corridor at 1133 S. Washington Ave, Lansing MI 48910.
